    Calculate capacitor power supply

No liability is assumed for the values achieved. The user is responsible for checking the values and correcting them if necessary. In some cases, the program displays notes on the calculated values to provide assistance. In any case, the calculated values should not be accepted without reservation.

Please refer to the Elektronik Kompendium. The theory is well explained there and possible applications for such power supply units and other important aspects are explained.

Again, please note: Working on 230 volts is life-threatening and should only be carried out by experienced electricians who know what they are doing! This is not for beginners!

The calculation could not be carried out due to incorrect information or errors in the software.

    kΩ

W (*)The power loss of the resistor Rcr exceeds 0.5 watts.

    nF

    kΩ

ms (*)The time constant of Cr and Rcr is greater than 100 ms.

    Ω

W (*)The power loss of the resistor Rs exceeds 0.5 watts. Reduce Rs value if necessary.

    ms

W (*)The power dissipation of the Z diode exceeds 1.2 watts.

The tool calculates the values using approximations. One of these is that the alternating current in the primary circuit is 1.2 times higher than the direct current. This value was measured by an author of the Elektronik-Kompendium.

The resistor Rcr has the task of discharging the capacitor Cr in a de-energized state so that the risk of an unpleasant electric shock is reduced or prevented. The tool calculates the value for the resistance Rcr in order to achieve a discharge time constant of 100 ms. The calculated value should therefore be understood as the maximum value if the discharge time constant of 100 ms is not to be exceeded. Resistance values below this result in a lower discharge time constant. Further information is provided, e.g. if the power loss of components exceeds certain values.

The resistance Rs limits the inrush current and should be between 100 (higher inrush current) and 800 (high power loss) ohms. If certain values are exceeded, the tool issues a corresponding message.
